As the name suggests, breast surgeries are a group of surgeries that are performed for both men and women in the breast area. There are 2 main types of breast surgeries, and these are cosmetic surgeries such as breast augmentation and reduction, and general –or therapeutic– surgeries such as breast cancer removal surgeries. We specialize in the latter type.
How Is The Surgery Performed?
This mainly depends on the reason for the surgery. Small lumps and cysts can be removed as an outpatient procedure with minimal anesthesia or sedation. Larger lumps and cancers would require general anesthesia. The length of the procedure also varies accordingly. Access to the breast is gained through an incision in the breast crease so that the scar isn’t visible. The lump is taken out and sent for testing in a laboratory. Finally, the surgical area is cleaned and the wound is closed. You would be monitored for a little while afterward again depending on the extent of the surgery performed.
